About Us

The story behind The Mystic

The Mystic was born from a mix of family love, community roots, and meaningful synchronicities.

Games have always brought our family together. They connected us with friends, deepened our bonds, and gave us a way to build community.

Before my wife Honey Darling passed away from cancer in May 2022, we dreamed of opening a game shop together. That dream became our family’s mission after she was gone.

At Honey’s memorial, everyone said the same thing, that being around her was healing.

She made people feel seen, welcomed, and loved. Carrying that spirit forward became my purpose. As queer, neurodivergent teens, both Honey and I found refuge in community spaces. She at Lambert House in Seattle, and me at a Pool Hall in Olympia called Mario’s.

Now, our kids Tobi and Rowan are growing into that same need for belonging. They’re creative, bright, and deeply into Pokémon and D&D.

In 2023, everything aligned. We returned to Olympia, connected with the amazing folks at Heart of the Deernicorn, and found a shared space downtown… right where Mario’s used to be!

The Mystic is more than a game store. It’s a tribute to Honey’s legacy, a safe place for youth, and a home for anyone looking for joy, connection, and play.

We’re honored to be part of downtown Olympia. Come visit. We’d love to help you find your next game or pull up a seat at the table.
